there's not even a cardboard cut-out
of a future to aim for
no las vegas rising from the dust
we look no more to the preacher
to guide us to the milestones
we can see the haze of bullshit that it was
we're the first generation
to believe in truth and science
brought up fighting fantasy and lies
so let us take careful steps now
and leave for the next
a foundation of tolerance and equality
this spring we have a break
to stop and re-evaluate
all that's important in our lives
and as the virus rages outside
and everyone stays in to ear-
mark all the bits that help us survive
hoping from the dust will rise
a new civilization with new measurements of value
and low pay for ruling classes
you laugh it off as fantasy
but all i'm trying to say is
without imagination we cannot dream of change

if we only had more time, the chances would come back around
moments pass but once
then they become mist or memories, residing in the mind
they'll dim you down or light you up
and when the last grain falls
and you still have breath
you'll stop from counting all the sand that falls away
and when your eyes fill up
if it's not with joy
close them tight and find a dream that fits you well
time can pick you up
the glass-blower stretches sand 'til time has dissappeared
late into the night
for fear his time may pass away
fill your days with fun and love and no time for regrets
where loss knocks you down
time can pick you up
and when the last grains fall
and you find you still have breath
you can flip the hourglass and keep on counting
or let time pick you up
time can pick you up
